History
The present day ČSOB Pojišťovna insurance company originated from the merger of the IPB Pojišťovna, a.s. insurance company and the ČSOB Pojišťovna, a.s. insurance company, which took effect from 6th January 2003.
History of the IPB Pojišťovna insurance company
IPB Pojišťovna, a.s. was founded in 1992 by the former Investiční banka, a.s. investment bank under the name of Pojišťovna IB, a.s. and thus became one of the first domestic insurance companies to enter the market after the deregulation of the Czech insurance market. IPB Pojišťovna commenced insurance activities on 1st May 1992 providing exclusive life insurance and retirement income insurance with the option of accident insurance. Insurance contracts were arranged for specific natural persons and in the form of group insurance for work collectives.
Since 11th March 1994 IPB Pojišťovna, a.s. has been providing comprehensive proprietary insurance and liability insurance for damage to enterprises and companies and from 1996 has also provided property and household insurance for public and small enterprises. This was completed with the provision of VARIANT motor vehicle insurance at the end of 1996, and in 1999 with the provision of liability insurance for damage caused by vehicles (the Road Traffic Act).
History of the ČSOB Pojišťovna insurance company
ČSOB Pojišťovna, a.s. was founded in 1994 under the name of Chmelařská vzájemná Pojišťovna and entered the market in 1996. In the same year permission was received to conduct business in all deregulated insurance market segments. The entry of the Chmelařská pojišťovna insurance company to the agricultural insurance market caused an important increase in the interest of public and commercial insurance companies in this area. Since the beginning of 2000 the insurance company has been issuing the license for the provision of liability insurance for damage caused by vehicles (Road Traffic Act insurance).
In 1998 the strategic partner KBC Insurance N.V. entered into partnership with Chmelařská pojišťovna and in 2001 became the 100% owner. As a result of this, the name of the Chmelařská pojišťovna insurance company was changed to ČSOB Pojišťovna.

Nowadays, ČSOB Pojišťovna, which originated from the merger of two significant companies is a universal insurance company providing a full scope of life and property-casualty insurance for natural and legal persons. In terms of the specified insurance premium volume, the company is ranked 4th among all insurance companies operating on the Czech market. Membership of the strong ČSOB financial group provides customers with a comprehensive service and quality comparable with other EU countries.
